One of the only female heroes in Greek mythology, Atalanta was abandoned and raised by bears and became an incredibly powerful hunter. She participated in the Kallidon Boar Hunt and won the competition by hitting the boar, giving the heroes an advantage. She is also famous for setting up running races and defeating many suitors, before she is finally defeated in marriage by the lure of a golden apple. Her story shows her agility, independence and bravery.
